VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage
Massage is one of the oldest therapies in existence, dating back to 3000 years BC, and is a fantastic tool to add to your complementary therapy toolbox.
You will develop an underpinning knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification.
Upon completion of both practical and theory elements, assessments and written papers a VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage will be awarded.
Theory elements are covered online in your own home and in your time via self study using our Virtual Learning Environment.
You must carry out and document evidence for at least 30 treatments on a minimum of four clients. There must be a minimum of four treatments for at least two clients.

Who is this qualification aimed at?
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a massage therapist including knowledge and understanding of the principles of complementary therapies and business practice, anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies. Learners will also develop their understanding and practical skills to competently provide massage services.
Who is this qualification approved and supported by?
The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage is recognised by the UK’s leading professional association, the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing you for a career as a massage therapist. Are there any prerequisites?
There are no formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification. It is recommended that you have a level of general education comparable to GCSEs. You should have a caring disposition and be committed to fulfilling both Practical and Theory Elements. You must meet the required Total Learning Hours (TLH) by attending our centre for the Practical Elements and by working through the Theory Elements, taking part in online discussions, assessments and reviews with your tutor and assessor via our Virtual Learning Environment. Practical elements may be of mixed sex and learners will be required to work on each other.
What are National Occupational Standards (NOS)?
National Occupational Standards are statements of the standards of performance individuals must achieve when carrying out functions in the workplace, together with specifications of the underpinning knowledge and understanding. Units in this qualification have been mapped to the relevant NOS (where applicable).
How long does it take to complete this qualification?
This qualification can be completed in a minimum of 6 months, on average it takes 12 months to complete both the practical and theory elements.
How is the course delivered?
Theory elements are covered online in your own home, in your own time and at your own pace via self study using our Virtual Learning Environment. The theory elements are perfectly suited to online delivery therefore they can be delivered and learning assessed online. You will be fully supported by your course tutor who’s role it is to help and guide you through the process from beginning to end. Both your tutor and assessor will ensure that you not only reach your goals but maintain industry and awarding body standards. You will also have access to our private Facebook group where you can communicate with other learners and graduates.
How can I progress from this qualification?
You can progress from the The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage directly into a massage therapist role as you will possess the skills to enable you to provide massage treatments for clients via employment or self employment in the complementary and healthcare sector.
What career opportunities exist?

What does the cost of this course include and are there any extra charges?
The cost of this course includes Tuition Fees, VTCT Registration, Record of Assessment Book, Course Materials, Certificate and Assessment Fees. The only other purchases you will need to make are for equipment necessary for carrying out your cases study treatments such as treatment couch, towels, oils etc and for any optional recommended reading text books. We will supply a resource list of everything you need.
Who is VTCT?
VTCT is a government approved awarding organisation, regulated by national organisations such as the OFQUAL (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulations).
Is this qualification regulated (officially recognised)?
Yes, the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Massage is regulated on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) meaning it is officially recognised.
Which mandatory units are included?
The following mandatory units are included:
- UV31268 Principles and practice of complementary therapies
- UV31299 Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology for complementary therapies
- UV31300 Provide body massage for complementary therapies
- UV31267 Business practice for complementary therapies
If you have achieved any of these units in previous qualifications you have completed and hold we may be able to apply RPL, Recognition of prior learning.

What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Leaning (RPL) is a method of assessment that considers whether you can demonstrate that you can meet the assessment requirements for a unit in a qualification through knowledge, understanding or skills that you already possess and do not need to develop through a course of learning. This can occur when you have already completed qualifications or learning that duplicates what is mandatory in the qualification you are about to enrol on.
You may possess skills and knowledge that have not been acquired through formal learning, (e.g., through work experience and/or other related learning that has not been formally certificated). This means that you may be able to proceed directly to assessment without further study, using evidence from un-certificated learning. We will advise learners if wethink this may apply to them.
How are the Practical Elements of the course delivered?
Practical elements are brought to life in a treatment room environment which enhances the learning experience. Therefore Complusory Interactive Treatment room sessions will be accessed by attending sessions at our centre over a period of 7 days or 3 hours per week, evenings or weekends for 19 weeks with one of our tutors, Joanne Lee or Cindy Vernon.
What is a Portfolio of Evidence?
A portfolio of evidence is a record of supporting information to confirm that you have the skills necessary to complete your qualification. Not all VTCT qualifications require you to build a portfolio and we will advise you appropriately. It can either be built in the form of hardcopy evidence or as an e-portfolio. We use a secure Dropbox folder for each individual learner where evidence in the form of written assignments, case studies etc. can be uploaded for the tutor, assessor, IQA and VTCT’s EQA can access them for sampling the learners progress.
Are there any exams?
Upon completion you will be required to attend our Assessment centre here in Dukinfield, Greater Manchester to sit two external and invigilated multiple choice exam papers and internal observations as your final assessment.

When do I attend the Centre for the Practical Elements?
Once you begin working through the theory elements your tutor will contact you to schedule the dates and times for your practical elements. These dates and times will be scheduled to fit in with the learner, where possible. Many times this leads to one to one tutor sessions, for which we make no extra charge! If any other learners are ready to schedule their practical element sessions at the same time you will study together in a group, with a maximum of 6 learners per tutor.
